Song of the Day

I wasn't familiar with this song but it is a good one. In Vietnam, his song "Detroit City" was the second most heard song with its chorus of "I wanna to go home. Oh how I wanna go home." But I really became a fan when he was recording quite a few songs by Shel Silverstein several on his album "Lullabys, Legends and Lies". Never heard him sing in person but I did run into him once in Atlanta back in the 1970s. He was very warm and friendly and we had a nice chat about several of his songs. He always mentioned the song writers names giving them credit. He's 82 and still touring so maybe I'll hear him one day down the road.

Became famous when his recording label messed up and put Jim Parsons' name on the label for "All American Boy," which sold a zillion. Parsons toured with the song and even lip-synched it on Bandstand, all with Bare's blessing. I don't think anybody ever heard of Parsons again, but Bare did okay.
