Atwill played the Sternberg-figure in THE DEVIL IS A WOMAN.

Of course Dan would come up with one out of left field - love it. A great turn to as Moriarty in the '39 "Hound…"

Oops. Make that Mortimer, not Moriarty. Hell, my old memory fails me. Wasn't he Moriarty in the other Victorian Rathbone SH film? The anthurium magenta became a regular book marker for me after that.

RHovey,

Atwill was Moriarty in SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE SECRET WEAPON, but that was one of the "modern" ones. George Zucco played Moriarty in victorian-era ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES.

One of Atwill's better late/low-rent films was PRC's FOG ISLAND (1945) which put him toe-to-toe with Zucco to splendid, if tatty, effect.

Ah, thanks Dan. And I'll look for Fog Island.
