50 years ago the Beatles performed six songs on the Ed Sullivan Show

I watched this show and remember it well.  It was in B&W on the TV set I watched, of course.  I didn't even know anybody who had a color set.

I watched and was pissed off. The damn screaming girls took away from the performances. I never understood why these boneheads screamed instead of enjoying the music.

And stay off my lawn!

I didn't see it. I was working in summer camp that year until later in August.

Bob, they screamed just that loud when I saw them in Carnegie Hall in February of 1964. They basically drowned them out totally.

I also remember it (good thing it was a Sunday evening; I worked most of the other evenings that summer). Hard to hear the actual music, but it did give me my first real appreciation of what a phenomenon they were.

I don't think that color televisions were real common yet...at least in my little town. So I saw it in black and white, too...and was amazed by their look and sound...what I could hear of it. I saw the second show in Sam Houston Coliseum a few months later. I sold my $5 ticket stub from that show about 20 years ago for $50. Still don't know if that was real smart or real stupid.

Oh...and about five years ago I got hold of a recording of that show and the music is surprisingly clear, so it was probably recorded from the sound board rather than through open microphones somewhere in the crowd. Good stuff.

There's a long article in the Houston Chronicle today about that show. A recording of it is a great thing to have, but it's a shame you don't have that stub.

I watched the show but, as a hormonal teenager, I was more impressed with Mitzi Gaynor.

My father, as a 28yo, would also have been most likely to focus on Gaynor, an old favorite of his. I could see why in a tv special she did ca. 1978...
