Can't believe no one mentioned THE DEMOLISHED MAN by Alfred Bester -- definitely my 1st pick. But was glad to see AS GRAVITY FAILS by George Alec Effinger, an underappreciated book and author in my view

Leaving off THE DEMOLISHED MAN is a big mistake, but I really enjoyed that whole series by Effinger.

I liked Lynn S. Hightower's four book David Silver/"Alien" series.

Of the nooks mentioned, I've only read the Dick. I think the Asimov robot novels qualify.

I really liked those Asimov novels when I read them back in the '50s, Rick.

Also Kristine Kathryn Rusch’s Retrieval Artist series, and Larry Niven's A.R.M. stories.

Yep, I've enjoyed both of those.

Thanks for the link love, Bill!

Also: #SmacksHead. I wish we had included you in this one. Great suggestions above and I'm sure you have many more. Feel free to leave a comment at SF Signal and school all of us. :)

If I'd been included, I probably couldn't have remembered any of these.

Plenty of Jack Vance stories and novels have mysteries at their core. Certainly the Magnus Ridolph series qualifies.

Right you are, George. I have a collection of those stories in an Ace Double, I think.
