Why Do the French Love Jerry Lewis?

I remain a huge Jerry Lewis fan. It's possible you have to be a baby boomer to understand and, yes, remember how huge he was, with Dean and alone. He and Dean were the comedy Beatles. Jerry make some very weak films as he tried to find his way when he was told old to play his trademark "kid." But at his best, I still find him one of the greats -- NUTTY PROFESSOR, LADIES' MAN, BELL BOY, ERRAND BOY, and a few others. ARISTS AND MODELS is a great Dean and Jerry film. Plus, he was an innovative director (inventor of video assist). But I will say this -- a friend of mine made the shrewd observation that the only thing funnier than Jerry at his best is Jerry at his worst.

Being even older than a baby boomer, I remember Dean & Jerry from radio and from their first film (I think), MY FRIEND IRMA. I loved 'em and saw every movie they made together after that. Saw most of their movies after the split, too. I was and remain a big fan.
