They should have done it long ago while he was alive. He was an artistic genius. Had the pleasure of watching him work on a piece at a public workshop at one of the WorldCons.

That had to be a great experience, Bud. I loved his covers when I was reading those Ballantine paperbacks long ago.

The pieces they showed in the article were good, but too many of his works were splatters and swooshes, not appealing to me.

Richard Powers has been a long time favorite with me and I've been trying to buy one of his original cover paintings for decades. Finally found a nice one I could afford at Windy City this year. It's for Jackson's THE SUNDIAL.

For many people Powers is too abstract but that very quality sometimes makes his work great. He was not your usual paperback illustrator that's for sure.

I liked Powers's abstract style. I think it worked great in his SF covers. I wish some publisher would bring out a volume of his paperback covers like the McGinnis volumes. I'd buy it!

George, there was such a book, you must have missed it: The Art of Richard Powers by Jane Frank, 128 pgs, 9x12, published by Paper Tiger (UK) in 2001. Excellent book, Foreword by Vincent Di Fate, bio by Richard Gid Powers (his son), thorough paperback checklist in the back. Copies are out there on the net.
