Coleen Gray, R. I. P.

The New York Times: Coleen Gray, an actress who dreamed of playing femmes fatales but was repeatedly cast as innocents in noir films like Stanley Kubrick’s “The Killing,” died on Monday at her home in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles. She was 92.

Hat tip to Jeff Meyerson.

She was a good actress and possessed a vulnerable prettiness that made her perfect for good girl roles in noir.

May I mention Coleen Gray's recurring role on McCloud?

She'd appear about once or twice a season, playing Chief Clifford's wife.

Coleen Gray and J.D. Cannon would always be in bed, in the middle of the night, when the Chief would get a phone call, telling him of McCloud's latest misadventure.
Her takes of mounting distress, combined with Cannon's manic rage -
- well, maybe it wasn't the showiest role, but she got a lot out of it (and I was always hoping that they'd do more with her ... aahh, that's the breaks ...)
