Ringo's no joke

Ringo's no joke. He was a genius and the Beatles were lucky to have him

Their best actor, a decent songwriter among geniuses, an interesting singing voice, and a pretty damned good drummer. They recruited him, after all.

I always liked Ringo's drumming. He really PLAYED the drums. No mere timekeeper, he. Hugh Grundy of the Zombies and (especially) Bobby Elliott are also criminally underrated drummers. I guess you need to be flashy like Keith Moon to be appreciated as a drummer.

I've posted this many, many times here, but still... The Fab 4 live on Swedish TV, October 1963. Ringo's great here.

Um, Bobby Elliott of The Hollies, that is.

That link is always welcome, Anders.

About that clip, AFAIK "Long Tall Sally" was basically an unplanned encore. Apparently the show was broadcast live and when the producers found they had several minutes to spare they asked the guys if they could to just one more number. Whereupon the band immediately launched into I'M GONNA TELL AUNT MARY ABOUT UNCLE JOHN... Imagine such spontaneity today.

Seriously? "Their best actor"? That's a real category you want to go with? Who exactly would be the competition there?

I guess I have posted also this before. Still, almost 20 minutes of the Beatles live on Swedish radio, October 24 1963. Ringo was certainly no schmuck.

One of my favorite things about the earlier clip is that the guys are standing about 6 inches from the audience. I don't think that happened again. Or not often.
